We have old X-terminals delivered by ABB for our Symphony DCI System Six DCS. They are connected to the Origin 900 Unix Servers (Conductor UX).

In the System Six portfolio these X-terminals are called DCT (Display Center Terminal), but the HW it's a NCD NC400 series X-terminal.

Now NCD have ceased its activities.
- Does anyone have used another X-terminal brand as a replacement of the NCDs?
- Does it have anything special, or it's a standard X-terminal with X11 capability?

Why not try a PC with Linux loaded and answer all your questions at once? It might take a little tinkering but I'll bet you can use a Linux desktop's X Server (with X client and server roles are reversed) to replace the NCDs and add vastly more capability at low cost. And when that works you can look into the various Linux Thin Clients available.

It's really long ago that you posted your question - but I can assure you that a Linux based PC will work really good as a replacement for a "original" DCT. Also from ThinPATH are still NC900s availiable.

 

Can you provide any more details as to how to get this to work?

 

The original X-Terminals were made by Tektronix and used standard X-11 software communicating to the server. There was a PC based package made by hummingbird.com that will work with System Six. There are a few issues with fonts but by in large it works well and have used it many times. There are also a few Tektronix units on ebay which would be your best bet.
