In the area of instrumentation, I have some basic queries regarding the following points. If anyone can answer the same it will be very helpful to me.

1) How to select the control valve?
2) How to size the control valve?
3) What is the criteria of selecting the flow sensor/transmitter?
4) How to indicate the instruments, signals, field instruments, electrical signal, pneumatic lines on the P&ID? Is there any basic guideline to read the P&IDs?

Hi,

Don't overlook the valuable resource of the technical sales persons. Talking to manufacturers and suppliers yields loads of information.

Hi,

If instrumentation project could be maiden alone, you should use software tool, that is most suitable for you as a user. In most cases you can consider using Autocad with special libraries, Visio, or any other common SW tool. Completely another case appears if you should integrate instrumentation into the complex plant project. In reality only few systems own real support for instrumentation, electrical and enterprise DB integration.

In fact, I found only two systems that own "real" integration in above mentioned terms. I have tested ELCAD and Cim-Team E3 Series and found them as the only "real things". EPLAN 21, EPLAN 5.x, Caddy++ET have only declared support for complex integration instrumentation in another project parts (electrical, corporate DB). Third candidate is Intergraph Intools, but I never saw this system.
