Detecting Leakage in Milk Cartons

I am looking for information as how to detect the leak from milk cartons/plastic bottles. The
cartons are 1/4, 1/2 and 1 litres. The productions rate is about 1-2 cartons per second. The leak in the cartons happen either from the bottom of the carton(first sealing process when carton is empty) or the top(second sealing when carton is full). In the case of plastic bottles leakage occurs through an occasional pin hole. The company currently uses an operator to squeeze the cartons to check for leak, which is very
subjective and may in itself cause leaks further on.

Looking forward to replies.

So why not use a mechnical clamp with a strain guage feedback to maintain a constant pressure. If there is no leak the feedback will fall to zero, wheras a leak will leave a continuous compensation requirement.

If the cartons are dry... IDEC makes a sensor that will detect any amount of water ... it's like a photocell ...

Hope this helps.
