DNP3

Hi All,

We have some RTUs that talk back to a Scada system
via the DNP3 protocol. We are considering replacing the RTUs with Siemens S7-200 or S7-300 PLCs and would like them to be able to utilize the DNP3 protocol via a Radio link.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Matthew

Dear Matt,

I will answer with an another question. Why are you replacing the DNP3 protocol based RTUs? Problems with the RTUs or problems with the protocol?

Hi Matthew, Rob,

I haven't done this, but try looking into using Profibus DP and then a protocol converter to DNP3.

Hi Tomy,

Sorry about the delay in this response, due to
circumstances beyond my control I have not being able to reply.

Well the reason that we are looking at going in a different direction that what we have is to simplify
our environment, we have made the decision in our treatment plant to move to a S7-400 series PLC with profi and ethernet.

Some of our bigger pumpstations require a reasonable amount of I/O and the RTU's that we are using are not designed around a backplane like the PLC's and some other brand of RTU's.

Utilizing a PLC for all of the control, seeing we have standardized with the Siemens product, we thought it might make good sense to roll that on out to all of our pumpstations, thus wondering if the was a DNP to Siemens interface solution out there.

Don't change an open protocol that is complete for others that have more conflicts! Why don't you try a solution concentrating your devices with several protocols and standarize them with just one check? The SEL 2030 with so much capability to do that, especially with open protocols like DNP3, Modbus and UCA, even IEC61850, that's going to do the work.

If you use KepserverEx with a DNP3.0 drive and a Siemens driver then you can use LinkMster to bridge data between the 2 devices.

You can download full functioning demos from the Kepware web site.
