OK, now I am COMPLETELY ignorant when it comes to this sort of thing, so please hang with me!! I am a Firefighter and need to respond from home. I know for a fact that our dispatching system uses DTMF tones. Is there a software program out there that will allow me to plug a scanner into my computer, and only allow certain dispatches through??

I hope this makes sense to someone out there, and that you can help me. I have seen many sites about making decoders and "FFT" software, but again, I DON'T KNOW WHAT ANY OF THAT IS!! Quite frustrating! Please contact me if you can help.

The gizmo described there sounds similar to what you describe, but you would probably need to augment it with some super-loud alarm or speaker amplifier.
