Could you please give some suggestions and share your experiences about dual channel synchronoscopes? We would like change our synchronoscopes with dual channel synchronoscope. Could you please give a comment about this? And which brands are producing dual channel synchronoscopes?

Thank you

gokhan_eee,

Can you please be more specific about the equipment at your site and what it is you might be considering replacing it with?

Why do you think your synchroscope needs to changed?

A synchroscope is really only a visual means of observing the relationship between the frequency of the incoming (generator) and running (bus) voltage waveforms. It's generally only used when manually synchronizing a generator and its prime; a mover to other generators and their prime movers. A synchronizer is a device that automatically synchronizes the generator--and it doesn't require a synchroscope. Sometimes a synchronizer will "allow" the synchroscope to be in operation during automatic synchronization, but it's typically not necessary for the synchroscope to be running for automatic synchronization.

"Dual channel" is not a term I've heard used when describing synchroscopes (nor even single channel, for that matter). I've heard of one element and two element devices, but, really the type of synchroscope depends on the configuration of instrumentation being used (Pt (Potential Transformer) type/wiring).

A lot of manufacturers try to distinguish their equipment from other manufacturers' equipment by using different terms. But, before you decide on any change you need to understand what kind of equipment you have and its configuration, and what kind of equipment and configuration the dual channel synchroscope requires. You may find that the true cost of changing would be very, very high because all new sensing equipments and wiring would be required. And, if that would be compatible with other existing protective relaying and metering supplied by the same sensing equipment and wiring.

If you can provide more information about your existing equipment and configuration (manufacturer; type of PT configuration (for example, open delta), what it is you're trying to accomplish, and what equipment you're considering we might be able to provide assistance with your query.
