I am looking to do a project on a big conveyor system ans I am unsure what the regulations are on the spacing of the emergency stops. I have been told there should not be more than 5 meters apart. I would like someone to confirm this.

You need to get a copy of the relevant regulations - and read them. Contact the authority which covers the area where the machine will be finally installed. Since it will be the legal responsibility of your company to comply with these regulations then you are obliged to research them. I've heard all sorts of urban myths about safety
legislation, it is best to get your information directly from the authorities, not shop floor tales.
