Can anybody determine if Type 4 Enclosures are acceptable for use Class II Division 2 Hazardous Areas? There are many manufacturers’ that claim their Type 4 Electrical Control Enclosures are suitable for location in these areas. NEC states that dust-tight (type 4) is an acceptable protection technique but do not mention for what. Does this include enclosures used for housing electrical controls/instrumentation or not?
