Hello,
And is only speed the advantage of Ethernet over Modbus RTU?. I am working with a old network (modbus) and we require to add a plc, I want to do it in ethernet, but not everyone believe is worth it
Thanks a lot

Look into the many Modbus "bridge" products that merge the Ethernet (MB/TCP) and serial (MB/RTU) worlds. Lets you do both.

The BIGGEST advantage to the Modbus/TCP (Ethernet) is the multi-master ability. If you invest in MB/TCP slaves or retrofit serial MB/RTU via bridges you can have 2 OPC plus your programming package running concurrantly. Even if you don't need concurrant masters, it helps in fault recovery to be able to rapidly start a new master without wiring changes should the first fail.
