The definition of a Fault Tolerant system implies that when an individual component fails, a backup component takes the control so the process seems no fail, and with a Hot-stanby system like GE Fanuc PAC RX3i you can get it, right??

Diego,

Depends, what the fault tolerant system is used for. Fault tolerance can be used to increase availability as well as to increase safety. Depending on your application and how fast you have to switch over, such a system can be used. Have a look at IEC 61508 for safety critical systems with output voting as an example.

Please provide more information in order to have a better understanding of your application. Then, a more specific answer can be given.

Regards,

Stephan
