Can someone suggest some solutions for interfacing Fieldbus (DeviceNet, CANOpen, Profibus, Ethernet/IP...) to a standard PC running Windows/Linux or a SBC (Single Board Computer) running a RTOS (VxWorks or Linux)? I am looking for a hardware board (PCI, VME, or other peripheral bus) and a software driver which will make it simple to interface to the standard Fieldbus protocols.

 

These are available but the hardware is ungodly expensive as often they are a coprocessor type design. Try Woodhead.

Baldor do a range of RTOS programmable multi-axis motion controllers (e.g. Nextmove ESB-2) with CAN master functionality. These interface to a PC over USB, with an ActiveX control and device drivers giving you programming access from high level Windows environments. Software can therefore be split between the motion controller and the PC, depending on whether realtime performance is required.
