We are in our final year and we need to submit a proposal for a research project in servomechanism. We would gladly accept suggestions for such project.

An open source project to control a servomotor position in software with real time Linux would be a useful project. It is electromechanical with a strong software emphasis. You did not mention whether you need mechanical or electrical or software engineering projects.
