This is a very general enquiry. I wanted to know after doing undergraduate studies in electrical engineering if I wanted to:

a)Work in an R&D environment of control systems, then in general further studies in which areas would be most beneficial.One of my seniors suggested that good knowledge of mathematics is very important to be in this field...does that mean postgraduate in Maths should be the next step?

b) work in a more commercial or non-R&D type jobs, are there any specific training courses that I can take to be more specialized?

 

You forgot option c) Get a job in a plant using control systems and learn about the real issues to be dealt with - a good grasp of the types of problem you deal with is a useful starting point.
