I have two fisher DVC 6030 positioners installed on two valve actuators whose valves have a common suction and discharge. I need to split range them.

One of the actuators is pre-existing, its controller has been fully configured, actuator type etc., however in order to split range these valves I need to change the controller's analog high range input from 20 mA to 12 mA. When I go online with the Hart Communicator I am able to view the analog high range input, but am unable to change it. Do I need to remove protection somehow? Do I need to install a jumper on the aux contacts? The fisher representative I talked to said that in order to change these input values I had to drive the positioner with 6mA plus, I did this and it didn't change anything. Please Help!!!

Hi...!
Is your HART communicator recognising the positioner correctly? If it is recognising it as Generic then you cannot change the values untill you upgrade your HART comm.
If your HART comm. is recognising the postioner correctly, you will get a detiled menu- like Auto setup, set up wizard etc. The DVC normally allows you to change parameters when it asks you whether to go "out of service". All these happens if HART comm. is communicating fully with the instrument.

Please confirm. I had similar problems with DVC6010.

It is better to do the split ranging in the controller output. That way periodic acalibration of the positioner will be to standard range (i.e. if valve is interchanged). Also, the splitting in the controller can be easily modified to meet process requirements.
