Frequency and Angle of a Synchronous motor

I have an application where I am driving a 4 pole synchronous motor. How does the frequency change and the angle when you go past synchronous speed and become a generator? I need to monitor the frequency and angle so that when I am below 1800 rpm I break the power so that it doesn't motor. I need to know what values I get when I go above synchronous speed??
