Fuel Consumption

I am trying to determine the fuel consumption of a 1 MW gas turbine. All I have is the PFS Gas Fuel Manifold Pressure and Gas Fuel Valve Demand %opn. The gas turbine is running on natural gas.

I think if you can give a manufacturer and model and a bit more of a specification, somebody should be able to help you.

Without that we would need a crystal ball..!!

The manufacturer is CAI 1 MW gas turbine, but the turbine itself is a Lycoming T-53 Gas Turbine. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Fuel consumption

well its a crystal ball effort but here it goes .

the following things are needed

1. Calorific value of the fuel used for a distillate it will be in the order of 10500 - 11500 kcal/kg
For gas it will be much higher - 12500 - 14000 kcal/kg

2. Gas turbine heat rate, or the thermal efficiency for a small 1 MW turbine it might me in the order of 25%, smaller gas turbines has typically lower efficiencies.

with the above assumption we proceed

GAS TURBINE
1. Fuel : distillate : naptha (11250 kcal/kg)
2. Efficient : 25%
3. GT load 1 MW

fuel consumption = power-energy equivalence * GT load / efficiency * calorific value
= 860 * 1 / 0.25 * 11250
= 0.305 T/hr

you divide by density you get it in M3/hr. you can use this for a quick calculation :).

Note - this will give you a good approximation if you are close to base load value.
