Galvanically isolators vs. barriers

I'm looking for a comparision of galvanically isolators vs. barriers for the IS-segregation of analogue and binary signals from/to DCS/PLC systems (advantages/disadvantages).
Statements/information about:
- reliability
- lifetime
- availability
- MTBF
- fault tolerance
- maintenance requirements
- prices
Could anyone please help me?

The biggest advantage that comes to mind that favors isolators is that a separate IS ground is not necessary. However, this advantage comes at a
price as isolators are generally more expensive than passive barriers.
