Want SOFTWARE to log data from a remote PLC capable of sending Modbus TCP data over GPRS on to a remote PC. Data storage can be in any format BIN, CSV, HTML or otherwise. Want to log it with a time stamp. Suggestions invited.

You can use any SCADA application with TCP/IP server or Modbus TCP/IP OPC server. You can also write your own server ( the Modbus TCP/IP is open and easy to implement ).

Try DAQ Factory from Azeotech.com. Versions start at free and go up from there. Very user friendly.

 

No suggestion of software, but just adding the comment that this is the BEST way to do this - what the cellular guys call 'mobile-originated'. So having a PLC or any device PUSH data into the central system is far more reliable than trying to poll a slave from the central system.

Not only can a mobile-originated system work with dynamic (or even private/non-routable 10.x.x.x) IP address, but the mobile-originated TCP sockets open faster and have a lower chance of failing.
