Hello everybody,

I am new working with Siemens HMIs. I have a machine with MP270 Panel running a old application and I want to do a modification, but I have other newer version of Protool in my laptop and I have no backup of original file. So I need O.S. upgrading but what will happen if I do upgrading without backup? I have read the license and data will be destroyed. I have everything ok with the connection to the panel.

Thanks very much for your help.

As Siemens' HMIs run a compiled version of the application source code, you cannot edit the application without the source code. The only thing you are able to do is upload the compiled code and then transfer it to a new (same part number) panel. I am sorry but it is my experience that you are out of luck.

Hello David,

To be able to do modifications in some machines that we have, I did two programs for two machines with MP270 panel. I am ready to upgrade, just because the machines are working ok and I want no problems. Could you inform me if the MP270 panel has a license for runtime that I must move first?
If I have problems with the new configuration, can I go back with the complete backup? (Img file and old O.S)? The old configuration software is Protool 6.0. I have WinCCFlex 2007 as new version.

Thank you very much!!

Vania71,

Do I understand correctly that you have recreated the application in WinCC Flexible, and you would like to install these in the existing panels? There is no runtime license required for the MP270 but there are some options you can add to the panels which require licenses. Since you are going from ProTool to WinCC flex I would imagine this is not the case but check to be safe. I would then backup the panels with Prosave in case you have any problems. Feel free to contact me directly at davidadams @ elmore.rr.com if you have any further questions, or you can call the Siemens support tech line.

David
