What are the requirements for Honeywell Experion PKS system upgrade from 301x to 310x ?

What are the hardware requirements? Software requirements? What are the features of 310x when compared to 301x ? This info is urgently needed pl.

Can anyone from Honeywell may answer this pl?

Thanks in advance.

Software Requirements

For Servers:

Windows 2003 Server SP2 o R2 (for T5 Server installations)

For Stations

Windows XP Professional SP3

Hardware

For Servers

Poweredge 2950
HDD Capacity Depends of Event/History Archiving Rate. You should take in mind RAID Configurations.100 GB is good for medium-Size Applications

RAM: 3 Gb For medium-size Applications

For Stations

Workstation Dimension T5400

HDD Capacity: 70 Gb is good
RAM: 2 Gb for better HMI Displaying

I advise you should make EXPPlus Installations, these are easier and reliable.

In Some Versions R310.x dont work properly (i.e. HMI Displaying Issues), i guess you should migrate to R311.3 or wait to R400 Release

Your existing hardware will support R301 to R310 upgrade. Even the OS on your existing R301 system will support R310.

On-Process Migration is possible from R301 to R310.

For Migration benefits, you may ask your local honeywell representative for SCN (software change notice).

Contact honeywell office which will draw out a perfect ON-PROCESS MIGRATION path and its procedure. It should take at least 1 month for preparations.

You can do this without Loss of View/Loss of control and your plant running.

Best of Luck

Gents,

Thanks a lot for the replies. Here is an update. I received 310x release manuals & gone through the migration planning thoroughly.

While i disagree with Jorge on certain points, (RAM should be 6 GB, Windows SP3 is still not being used for process control by DCS vendors). Anyhow, as one of our colleagues pointed out, when i asked Honeywell to provide 310x release, i understood the complete life cycle for upgrade project.

Thanks alot guys. Have a nice day.

End result: I have decided not to take the risk of immediate upgrade just after 4 months of commissioning. I would like to stabilize the process first. In the mean time, i would offline like to explore the capabilities of 310x

With reference to your comment below, have you done an OPM before? How did you handle the graphics and control modules (CMs)? Is there a migration tool? Do they have to be re-worked from scratch? Or would all that be required is just to import them into a newer version of HMI Builder/Control Builder?

I know that some of the CMs may need editing as pins may have been removed from function blocks but the site audit gives guidance for that. I was just wondering how incompatible the two versions of Experion are...And if R311 is not in some way backward compatible so that it can read R301 files.

Thanks,
Potential 301.3 to 311.3 Migration User
