House Load vs Islanding Mode Operation for GT

Hi,

what is the different between house load operation and islanding mode? is it different?

The main question is GT has time limit for house load operation. It said "GT can perform house load operation for 2 hours duration".
why there is time limit? is there parameter we need to monitor closely during house load operation?

btw, I operating single shaft CCPP with 9HA.02 GT.

thanks for your help

huruhara,

My best answer would be that while both modes imply the turbine-generator is not synchronized to an "infinite" grid with other generators and their prime movers, house load implies a very small load (approximately 10 MW or less). Many prime movers, and even some generators, are not designed to run at light/low loads for extended periods of time.

If a power plant is supplying a large quantity of power to a nearby process plant independently of a large grid that is usually considered to be islanding operation. An island could also be a large residential load (hundreds of homes and businesses) being powered by the power plant independently of other generators and their prime movers (so not synchronized to a grid).

Most "house" loads are the loads for the plant--water treatment, possibly a natural gas compressor, boiler feed pumps, cooling water system, lights, etc., and are usually under approximately 10 MW, usually less, sometimes much less depending on the plant (if it's combined cycle or not, for example).

Hope this helps!
