How Common Is RS-485/422 4-wire?

In this year of 2015, how common are 4-wire RS-485/422 devices?

I know it was fairly common back in the 1990's, but I have been out of this 485 loop for a decade. Now it seems most products are 2-wire only, and the few I've seen which are still 4-wire seem to have unusual loop-back or repeating behaviors which make then not quite standard anyway. What have others seen out in the market place?

Thanks

don't see much of RS422 at all these days.

can't say I have ever even seen a 4 wire RS485 device.

Like you I'm a bit rusty, I haven't seen any 4 wire systems for a while, you would think they would be faster.

BTW you can monitor the traffic using a laptop with RS232 connected to the negative wire of the pair, it's very handy when first setting the parameters.
