How does adding gain in a control loop move the system pole?

Here's the setup. Given an RC circuit with a feedback loop, you can get the step response of the closed loop transfer function (which will have the open-loop TF of (1/RC) / (s + 2/RC). Now add a gain within the open loop, and plot the frequency response. The system poles have changed. Mathematically, I understand why this is, but physically I don't since there is the same RC elements in the circuit. What does adding a feedback loop do that allows the system to effectively change its pole locations? Can someone give a more intuitive explanation?
