How to Duplicate SLC5-03 application

Having no original file at PC; what is the stepwise procedure to load a blank SLC 5/03 L532 PLC from another identical controller which is isolated from the former but is controlling a water treatment plant; actually the new plant is exactly identical but without control application.

The procedure would be to unload the program from the processor that has the program in it now, and then download it into the processor that does not have a program in it.

You would of course have to use the AB programing software to do this.

If there is an EEPROM involved conceivably you could just move the EEPROM to the blank controller.

Go to the location with the working PLC. Connect to it with RSLogix 500 and upload the program (RSLogix uploads a complete processor image including data file definition and contents). A 5/03 has a RS232 port so you don't need a PIC or UIC; a simple null modem cable will be fine.

Documentation won't be included, but you don't need it simply to clone the application.

Then go to the location with the empty PLC and download.

You should already have uploaded the working application anyway, just for backup, even if you don't have the time to go back and reverse engineer the documentation, so make sure you keep a copy of the PC file. It will have an RSS extension; only one file for the whole app.
