We have got thermax make ESP( 90 KV DC) in our plant for sponge iron kilns. During every shutdown we used to clean the ESP fields and check IR value using 5000 volt megger. If we connect line terminal of the megger to emitter and ground terminal to collector the IR value is 500 mega ohms. If we connect line terminal to collector and ground terminal to emitter the IR value is 2000 mega ohms. I would like to know how the IR value becomes 4 times greater while interchanging the megger terminal leads.Can anyone clarify this?
