Interface protocol of encoder in Mitsubishi HGKR43

I have a Mitsubishi motor "HGKR43".I purchased the motor in used condition from a supplier.
I want to know the interface protocol for the encoder of the motor. Can anyone help me to identify the interface protocol?
Having glanced over the general manual:

You are not intended to know a great deal about the encoder since the manual is all about the servo-drive.
However for an incremental encoder there may not be any protocol - simply giving pulse per revolution [ppr].

Personally I would connect up an oscilloscope/counter to check for a rotational pulse and how many per revolution. And for a dual 'beam 'scope, determine if there are 2 pulses giving you 'quadrature encoding':
