Interfacing S5 PLCs with S7 PLCs

I understand S7 PLCs do not support I/Os of S5 PLCs. Hence I intend to use an S7 CPU to only communicate with S5 CPU. While S5 CPU will only communicate with I/Os, S7 PLC will hold the program and process the I/Os fetched from S5 CPU. But I want to know what are all the options available to me. Can anyone suggest, as I have to take a decision on this matter shortly.

Try looking at the CP541 module. We successfully used this to communicate between 2 S5-95Fs and a S7-400.

Hi,

once I heard of possibility to connect S5 racks to S7-400 via IM463-2. Also there's a S5 Adapter module for S7-400.

Hi,

Whenever asked to interface two PLCs (plural no apostrophe) I always ask how much information is to be passed between them and at what rate. You can then implement a solution from the no-cost 'bit-wiggle' to an
expensive communications module for each plc.

Use an IM 463-2. I have used this in an installation of over 26000 IO points. No problems. Use an S5 CPU 343 on the other end.
