For a start Intrinsic safe cable is often blue in colour. It should not be in contact with other non Intrinsic cables.

An intrinsic safe loop is limited in power to a point where it is unable to generate a sufficient spark to ignite the flammable gas or liquid.

Hope this helps.

Yes Roy Matson is right..

However the difference between IS and NON IS cable is only sheath color. other-than that spec will be the same.

You will still need to use the appropriate cable glands.

so color is only for discrimination between cables

Provided you have to satisfy this condition

Permitted Cc < Ca-Ct
Cc Cable capacitance
Ct Internal Caps of Transmitter
Ca Caps of Source side

Likewise for Permitted Cable Inductance & L/R ratio

I understand IS cables comes with lower capacitance & Low Inductance

Also You will need to get approval from Client/TPI
