Intrinsic Safety

Dear Friends,

Please help me with the knowledge on IS verification and its Calculation.

How is IS verified between multiple wire RTD and Temp Transmitter?

Thank you.

Hi,

Have you checked through IEC 60079-11? RTDs are classified as simple apparatus as per IEC 60079-11, which do not generate or store energy to create ignition source. So they are compatible with the intrinsic safety. However, a safety barrier may be used as an interface between intrinsic and non-intrinsic circuit.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

I am familiar with the simple apparatus. But I’ve also studied that if there are many RTDs, then verification is necessary. Is it true? If yes then what are the entity parameters for comparison and to do calculation? Cuz I only know about the RTD 4-20 mA electrical parameter.

Regarding barrier circuit, lets say a radar type level gauge (RTG 3960) is at top of tank (in Haz area), and Indicator at tank base (Safe Area). Do you mean to say barrier circuit is needed between gauge and indicator? What about barrier between power source and level gauge? Also is it possible to have barrier circuit in-built in radar type level gauge?

Hope to have good description again. Thank you.

Kind Regards,
Biky
