Is the list broke?

I think that it sort of disintegrated due to lack of agreement on what a PLC really is and an inability to focus on a core document describing the requirements.

Many seemed to be more interested in some kind of high speed controller rather then a general purpose PLC.

Others continued to talk about "compiled code" and did not seem to want to accept the idea of ladder logic as a core language, or did not consider online programming to be a critical feature.

Others seemed to get mired down in the minutia of certain details. Think of the dozens (maybe hundreds) of posts about whether or not multiple
processes/programs should be able to control a single output. That should have been disposed of fairly quickly as the answer is pretty obvious (at least to me).

I think this situation may have caused a general lack of interest and maybe some time is now required for contemplation.

Personally, I would like to see work begin on a document describing exactly what it is that is needed rather then creating snippets of code. If we cannot even define it, how can anyone code it?

As far as I know, we are waiting for those who feel strongly about approaches to bring their approach into a form we can understand and discuss. There are at least three individuals who have said thay will show code. The list hasn't disintegrated and won't unless we can't merge or agree on one approach. This should be somewhat more focused than the open brainstorming that we have had. If worse comes to worst, I was planning on writing a PLC myself until just recently when I got the idea to make it a community project. I know if I posted any kind of a prototype that could be run, it's be off to the races again. I am sure every last list member is still lurking. I myself am waiting on Opto22 for some technical questions and hoping to get a look at some other Modbus/TCP hardware.

Curt W.

I think it is mostly resting for a while waiting for something real to discuss, like the next step after the draft version 0.0.0.0.0.1 or something

I went to France to listen to Phil Wilshire's real-time linux talk at the Paris Linux Exp.. While there I started a requirents/design
document. I also got a horrible sinus infection which I am slowly recovering from. Last week I felt miserable as I couldn't breathe or hear. I am feeling better now but my hearing is still gone. I will post the beginnings of my document this weekend.

I think maybe were down to a few worker bees.
