Does anyone know of a text display or some type of inexpensive LCD that can be used with a SLC 5/01 via the DH485 port?

 

You could try Allen-Bradley DTAM-E, using ASCII characters in the SLC you can display messages on it. Not that easy to use but is probably one of the cheapest ways of getting on the DH485 network.

If you need a wider choice you could replace the processor with a 5/03, this will allow the use of a low cost display from PLC direct etc. thanks to its support for DF1.

 

I am not sure just what your cost will be, but the AB Panelview micro300 should work OK. I think you will need an AIC+ and some cables to use it. Check with your local distributor. Total should be under $500.

you might want to check out some of the redlion controls hmi products. most have 485 and 232 communications, and the display range from basic text to high graphics.

 

Most of the Automation Direct HMI products will work with SLCs.
