i have this MILLTRONICS product of SIEMENS the Airanger XPL PLUS and i have a problem in connecting it to the serial port of the PC so to configure it by the DOLPHIN PLUS software

can any one tell me where to connect the wires from the PC serial port? The device has only a communication port by the use of current loop
but in the software manual it seems that it can be connected to the device directly

thanks to all

Current model is the Siemens LU-10, and it uses the Comverter for Dolphin digital communication.

Likewise, an older 2001 XPL+ manual that I have states:

"PROGRAMMER: 20 tactile feedback keys or Dolphin (XPL+/RS-232C interface) each with magnetic
mounting and infrared interface (ordered separately)."

And a 2002 Dolphin software manual states:
"Some instruments (especially wall mount models) have only an infrared programmer connection. A ComVerter is required to place into the instrument’s programmer bay."

Hence, the Dolphin interface for an XPL+ or LU10 is the so-called COMverter device, a 9V
battery powered, Siemens/Milltronics device, the same size as the handheld programmer, which outputs an IR signal, just like the handheld programmer, and which inserts into the same programmer bay on the XPL+ as the the handheld device. The Comverter connects to the PC with a telephone cable and an RJ/DB9F adapter.

The Comverter has an RJ-11 connector that uses flat telephone cable (like that used in the USA) to connect to the RJ-11 connector on a DB9F-to-RJ-11 adapter like the one shown here:

The wiring below is for the RJ/DB9F adapter.

I suspect that the Siemens Comverter kit includes all the pieces, the Comverter, 3m cable and RJ/DB9F adapter, but your Siemens rep could confirm that. I made additional RJ/DB9F adapters when I bought a Comverter some time ago.

As I do in all cases like this, I strongly recommend that you contact your local Siemens representative. They really can help you better than this list can.

For example, I seem to recall that the serial I/O on that device is optional and may not be available on the specific device you have--BUT I COULD BE ENTIRELY WRONG. The Siemens rep, on the other hand, won't be wrong.
