Limit switch for valve

Gowris,

There are all kinds of sensors available for all kinds of applications.

Many valve manufacturers have developed different methods for sensing valve position on their valves.

You haven't told us if you need precise position indication (0-100%), or open-closed indication, etc.

There are so many types of hand-valves, rising-stem types, non-rising stem types, ball valves, gate valves, and they come in all kinds of shapes and sizes and orientations and on and on and on and on and ....

You haven't provided enough information to be of much help. If this is for a valve used in an industrial application, you might try contacting the valve's manufacturer or one of their representatives who sell the valves, and valve parts and accessories, or visit their website.

If this is a "garden variety" globe valve, you may need to fashion something yourself to meet your needs--again, you haven't defined what kind of position indication you need. Would a limit switch, or limit switches, work for your needs? Do you need an analog signal proportional to position (4-20 mA, for example)?

Try using your preferred Internet search engine with different terms and groups of words to search for something which fit your needs if the valve's manufacturer doesn't have something.

Many time, a company that sells valves also sells different types of accessories, including "position indicators" that you might be able to use.

While they can be a little difficult to search on-line (at least for old folks like me who are used to paper catalogs), you might try a site like McMaster-Carr in the USA for some ideas. I obtained one of their catalogs many years ago, and it's entertaining to just thumb through it from time to time, there are things in there one never gave a second thought to but when you encounter them you can see how they might be necessary or useful. Another similar site would be the Grainger USA site (I think that's the name).

Anyway, define your requirements and do some more Internet searches and try asking your question here again (a third time!) when you can provide more information.

Hope this helps!

Best of luck!

Hello, Thanks for your idea / sharing.

Our application has both "rising stem & non-rising stem type globe valve" and we need to know only the "Open / Close" position of it with the provision of "Limit Switch".

We've decided to fix a iron rod which can engage / disengage with the Limit switch.

Many a thanks,
Gowris
