GE_LM6000GT/GEN.

we are having repeated "GEN L.O. start up sequence failed" Alarms on normal starts. even though this has not stoped us from running! this is a concern, has be going on for about 6 months now and we are not sure what the issue is? Does not occur on every start just out of the blue. L.O pumps start in this sequence when the alarm is noticed.

(AC-DC-AC-DC-AC) then operator akw alarm and proceeds to complete start-up. Pressure switches, leads, contacts, program ext. have been inspected. If someone has exp. with this config, please lend a helping hand it would be greatly appreciated!

Which model of LM 6000 M/C u have PA/PC/PD? Which governer u are using , NETCON 5000, or IHI?

If u are having NETCON as a governer, check for generator remote I/O lube oil console.
 
Just to clear a few points -

1. How does the sequence proceed even after you get the alarm "GEN L.O. start up sequence failed"

2. You have mentioned "L.O pumps start in this sequence". What does this mean?

3. If you have sequence fail and the operator acknowledges it, how does the sequence proceed?

Actually I am unable to contrive the case. Please provide information to the fullest even trivial information at times is of critical significance especially during trouble-shooting

Hi CTB,

Sometimes this might be occuring due to a bug in the program. It looks for me as if someone has tried to configure an Alarm "GEN L.O. start up sequence failed" but with incorrect treatment. example: a wrong time delay etc. Hence I would advice you to open the software and look for the mentioned variable as to how it has been treated in the program.

1. when the alarm comes in on start-ups the operator will akw/silence. the problem is that this is now on every startup (just an alarm) and can be cleared by operator.

2. Now...on other ocasions the alarm will come in and will not allow operator to(just) akw/silence. operator has to master reset, command start, and this might have to be done 1to3 times before unit will start again.

so we have a silenceable alarm and out of the blue maybe 1 month later or 25 starts later example! we might have the shutdown alarm.

a problem that i have notice when we get the alarm. the ac/dc lube oil pumps are trying to prove out as soon as the start command is given. this is not correct. the lube oil pumps are set up to prove out after the 5 min. (purge) they are starting to prove out to soon during the (purge). the way they are suppose to work is:

start command> 5 min purge> ac/dc pump to prove psi> ac pump stays on> hyd.starter-appoxx 2400rpm> Combustion> at approx 3000 rpm ac pump kicks out because mechanical pump is operable at this time and sufficent for lubeoil.
 
Something definitely that I would suggest you (or the concerned) to open the logic ONLINE during start and follow. This way you could troubleshoot in an efficient way.

what i think , lube oil pump start/stop during start up is correct. in LM 6000 machine which i operate, sequence is like when u give start command. first AC/DC lube oil pumps starts. First DC pick ups, after its healthiness check up, lead AC pump starts, which upon clearing its healthiness, standby starts and then one leading AC pump remains in service. after that JOP starts and then Hydraulic starter engages, and boiler purge initiate,

U say that at 3000 rpm , Mechanical pump is capable, but in LM 6000 machines, lube oil pump is accessary gear box mounted, and AC/DC pumps u talking about is only for Generator, m i right or not,

most probably it would be card, or some instrument related problem

My concern is with the "lm6000 generator L.O System" not the GT lube oil pumps.

Yes......you are correct there is a "Gas Turbine Lube Oil System" the pump you are identifying is mounted on the right hand rear side of the "engine's" accessory gear box is a combination suppy and scavenge pump assembly. Contained within the pump is one pressure pump element and six scavenge pump elements, all of which are positive displacement gear type pumps driven from a common shaft that is splined into the accessory gear drive. The purpose of the system is to flow adequate supply of synthetic oil across the engine bearings for cooling of bearings during engine operation.

What I am seeing on our 6000....I have not seen in the past. Is it posible for you to watch and note down the the sequence in which your 6000 generator lube oil pumps activate ext. maybe at what time after start command is given ac/dc pumps start prove out and mech. pump takes over. if you could I would appreciate it """lots""".
