Mark V Power Supplies

on GE Speedtronic Mark V, the PD module schematic drawing has a note

"when connecting AC power to the power distribution TB1 verify that JTX connector on both AC source selectors are plugged into JTX1 for 115VAC or JTX2 for 230VAC"

- We usually power it with just 125VDC and no AC. but we want to power it up with AC for test purposes but connecting AC to the PD doesn't bring it on, as if there is a jumper missing. but we only have socket JZ5 labelled AC SEL, and socket JZ3 labelled AC1, and socket JZ2 labelled AC2. The only one with a plug is JZ5 with the top 2 rows of pins connected left to right. Any advice would be appreciated.

David McC,

The Mark V TCPS power supply cards and TCEAs require 125 VDC, and cannot be powered by AC.

The TCPD has a couple of connectors that can be used to send AC to one or two <DACA> modules that convert AC to DC. The cables interconnecting the <PD> to the <DACA>(s) carry both the AC to the AC-to-DC converter(s) and the DC back to the <PD>. There are "jumpers" on the <DACA>(s) that must be set to either 110 or 220 VAC.

So, unless you have <DACA>(s) and the cable(s) to interconnect it(them) to the <PD>, connecting AC and even adding jumpers to the <PD> won't power the Mark V TCPSs and TCEAs--which MUST have 125 VDC to operate.

Hi CSA,

Sorry to just get back to you now, your answer is spot on, we don't have a DACA so we had to connect temporary 125V dc power to get the Mark V powered up (usual DC power not available during outage). The problem with our documentation is that it talks about a lot of things that sometimes don't exist in our installation.

Many Thanks,
David
