Media Converters

Hi list Members,

Greetings to you

I am working in a project, where we are getting data from a remote station through media converter (fiber to copper and vice versa). The fiber is single mode,80km long & 1550nm wavelentgh transmission is used in the media converter. As per the optical hop calculation the total losses in the fiber is around 28dB for 1550nm transmission. (including Fiber, splicing and connector losses). We have proposed a media converter which can work upto 34dB losses i.e 6 dB margin. The fiber network was installed only 4 years before. There was no chance to measure the exact actual losses in the fiber during the design stage. Now we have measured that the total losses as 38dB. I don't find any standalone media converter which can work morethan 37dB losses.

Any suggestions to overcome this problem.

Thanks

Regards,
Nixon
