Do you know...?

1. Taking a look at the automation list archive MMS (Manufacturing Message Specification) seems not to be a big issue in automation. Why this? MMS sounds quite promising.
2. Is there a mailinglist or use-group for MMS related questions?

There are many companies applying MMS for real-time automation systems. The utility industry uses MMS in various application domains: Control center to control center communications (ICCP, IEC 60870-6 TASE.2), substation automantion (IEC 61850), Utility Communications architecture (UCA).
