MODBUS EMC Requirements

Hej Modbus community,

Please help answer my two questions below.

CISPR 32, Electromagnetic compatibility of multimedia equipment - Emission requirements, has requirements for all sorts of bus ports, wired, optical and wireless.

CISPR 32 defines class B as for use in residential environment and class A for all others e.g. industrial.

1. What do you think of CISPR 32 test methods and limits for testing the EMC emission performance of the Modbus port on a product?

2. Which other standards would your suggest?

Thank you in advance

Best regards
Ole

Hi Brian and all,

Modbus is a type of field bus. When sold/installed/use in EU it must comply with the applicable regulatory requirements.

Recently this standard was listed under the EMC directive:
EN 61326-2-5:2013
Electrical equipment for measurement, control and laboratory use - EMC requirements - Part 2-5: Particular requirements - Test configurations, operational conditions and performance criteria for devices with field bus interfaces according to IEC 61784-1

Or is there a good rational why Modbus would not be implemented in accordance with IEC 61784-1?
