I would like to know if the modbus is compatible with the EIB European Installation Bus?

Although not directly compatible, North Communications have several products that can allow them to interoperate - the Compass System has drivers available for both MODBUS and EIB, as well as LON, BACNet, and a host of other proprietary systems "www.northcomms.com":http://www.northcomms.com

Modbus is a master-slave protocol using the polling principle. EIB is a even trigereg protocol. Modbus use a station+variable ddressing schema. EIB use logical function addresses. Terefore they are not compatible and protocols cannot be directly converted.
The only solution is to use programmable device supporting both protocol.
The only PLCs doing so that I know are the SAIA-PCDs systems.

Dear Giorgio,
Modbus and EIB are not directly compatible. EIB is a serial communication but with its own electric specification. The only way it is to use a gateway.

Intesis Software has a powerful gateway allowing to poll modbus devices (is a modbus master) and translate the values to EIB. You can read/control modbus devices from EIB. A small box for DIN rail.
