I need a simple utility to run on my PC and communicate with a Modbus RTU slave to verify commications works with the slave. I only need it as a utility for checking stuff out. Does anybody have one/sell one???

You can use ModLink Software from Modicon. This is a DDE utolity you can link to Excel or a Visiual basic application. The ref is 352SMD49300.

 

You can get "Modbus test software" from
modicon support bbs. The program is older and unsuported but works just fine. Here is the procedure you need to follow:

1. go to "bbs.modicon.com/signup/supform":http://bbs.modicon.com/signup/supform and create an account for you
2. When your are done select "File Libraries" or go to "bbs.modicon.com/library/":http://bbs.modicon.com/library/
3. Search for MTS
4. Download MTS302.zip

Take a look at the MatPLC, one of the demos does exactly that, so you won't even have to set anything up yourself. (Well, the demo blinks outputs 1, 2, 3 and 4 on RTU slave 0 - you might need to change that to suit.)

Any of the Modbus Master emulation programs mentioned should do what you require. My favorite can be downloaded from http://www.simplymodbus.ca/download.htm

I believe it is the easiest to figure out.
