Modsoft serial port problems

We a using a Quantum 140 cpu 11302. We have Modsoft vers. 2.4 and we are trying to establish communications running the software in Windows 98SE.
Is there any installation procedure for this software?

We checked cables and hardware and all seem to be OK.

When we try to establish communications we just get a "please wait" message that lasts forever.

How do we communicate with the processor?

Also tried it in DOS Mode (RTU) with the same result.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Paul,

Im not sure but in modsoft 2.4 there was problem with UART device. It doesn't work with fast UART. Try upgrade Modsoft to 2.62. You can get trial version of modscan32 from www.win-tech.com to test the comunication PLC <-> PC.

Hi Paul,

Have you tried connecting from another computer?

I would recommend the following cable pinout:
2 - 3
3 - 2
5 - 5
4&6 jumped on both sides
7&8 jumped on both sides

You might want to increase the receive/transmit buffer to the maximum on your comm port setting.

You can try switching to Modbus ASCII. Simply put the Selector switch to Modbus ASCII on the PLC itself. The default parameters for Modbus ASCII are 2400, 7, even , 1.

Good luck!
