Motor protection from reading electric variables

For example, I want to count hours of operation to predict when it should be serviced, anticipating a fault. Another example would be, read the motor’s current; if it is below a low limit, it means that the tank is out of water, that a belt is broken, that there is a broken pipe, etc. What other electric variables from my meter can I use for monitoring and protection purposes, and what meaning do they represent in terms of the mechanical and electrical condition of the motor? Say, for example, does a low or high power factor imply a faulty condition in this pumping application? Another example: how can I implement a jam protection? All ideas are very welcome. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
