Multi-level switch interface with PLC

I want to use a multi-level switches to control a pump (turn pump on/off) to supply water to a tank. Each reed has a power rating of 15 Watts. How do I interface the switch with an A-B PLC? What are advantages/disavantages of multi-level switches vs. continuous float transmitter? Thank you.
