automationX is not exactly a new HMI software package. It's been around for 10 years and is predominantly installed in Europe. It is the only system that runs on Linux (as well as NT/2000) and has a completely integrated "Soft PLC". In other words there is a single tag database rather than a seperate "Soft PLC" database, as in other SCADA. automationX uses standard X11 protocol to run the client displays, which can be either Windows 95/98/NT/2000 or Linux or X terminals. The server runs on Linux or Windows NT/2000. It is open "middleware", to connect the factory floor to any management database, by way of ODBC, DDE or OPC.
