NFPA/NEC Vs. ATEX Directive

Hey guys,

I was having a discussion on electrical motors area classification with an ATEX certified professional(IECEx CP) and I was quoting him NFPA 70 Article 501 for a case.

His comments were that NFPA does not offer much information or training on this subject.

*QUOTE*

''NFPA – No such training exists from NFPA. This is why MANY have rejected the use of NFPA standards, and have moved onto ATEX or IECEx (All of Europe, Australia, Japan, China, …. Even India with PESO)''

*UNQUOTE*

What do you guys think? Is it really true that ATEX has better information/understanding on classification of electrical equipment and NFPA standards in this case are being rejected?

As far as I know, NEC or NFPA70 give adequate coverage on classification of electrical equipment. Which code do you guys follow at your industry?

Regards,

Mutahir
