I am looking at AMCI and Baldor integrated stepper/driver units. Any opinions on the general advisability of using integrated motors + drivers? Any opinions on the quality of these two company's products?

 

i have looked at the parallax stepper driver board and the national semiconductor lmd18200 ic, but it would be great to find some contacts and swap control info. i am familiar with allen bradley slc-500 series, the bottom of the food chain of controllers, and i have made a stepper somewhat step with a basic stamp, but if you have any stepper suggestions i would appreciate it.

My experience with AMCI's stepper product line has been rock solid. I've been using their stepper drives and motors for over eight years and purchased our companies first batch of 6 integrated motor/drives (SMD23 - http://www.amci.com/stepper-motor-control/integrated-stepper-motor-drive-23.asp) in Q3 of last year... so far I love it! Easy set-up, hassle free performance out of the box, and field swaps, if ever necessary, are a snap. Hope this helps!
