I am considering OPTO22's Ultimate I/O solution to read in serial data from at least four devices and to control discrete i/o. The ethernet port will be utilized do a lookup to a host pc for the purposes of printing data that relates to the barcode while moving down a conveyor line.

Will the scan times be satisfactory for up to 200/min and will the serial ports/ethernet port stand up to the task.

How good is This new Ultimate Brain Device.

Nifty packaging for sure.

Can I attach a vvvvverrrry low cost HMI?

I've successfully implemented the Ultimate Brain for two seperate applications. I know opto has a $99 HMI that can be used to talk to one or several Ultimate Brains. It is called ioDisplay.

The one application of mine that sounds like it is similar to yours involved reading four bar-codes and displaying them on an HMI and their G70 Terminal.

Pretty slick design a small 4 port hub networked the PC, UIO and G70 together.
