I need to know about the Optobus.opotobus cards is used in alstom plc's and drives to communicate via fiber optic with the other devices. We have a closed loop control system that use of PCO41 optobus controller in Alstom672EM and BRO41 made by cegelec as an optobus dispatcher.

these cards communicate via optobus cables with GD3000 Ac drive and MV1000, DC drive. We need to upgrade this system and maybe change some of parts or automation system with the siemens S7. I should know the optobus protocol to have ability to reprogram the new system regarding its previous programming and data. Is there anyone to help me in this project? Best of luck! I've seen Octobus in only one application and that was a German printing press. Even the company that made the cards doesn't talk about it anymore. It was kinda neat for that application with the plastic fiber communications, but I looked hard and never came up with any useful information. I'm afraid it joins the vast heap of dead proprietary automation schemes, orphaned by it's creators, who take no responsibility for their legacy. My bet is you'll have to start over with Profibus or something. The programming was in ROM so you might be able to disassemble it if you want to bad enough.

Optobus is only the physical layer. together with PLC card and PCO/BRO the data is distributed.

The control words and I/O for GD3000, and the discrete and analog signals for MV1000 are configured in your PLC application and in the drives. This is what you need to know.!!

If you choose a standard bus system (GD3000 speaks canbus i think) other than optobus, you need to define/configure the I/O anyway; without having to understand optobus.

Converteam (Alstom), is the original manufacturer of your system i believe.
