I need to provide cost effective overload protection for 3 phase, 480 volt, 1 HP and smaller exhaust fan motors. Could you recommend a suitable product or option?

Um, how about a bimetallic overload relay attached to the bottom side of the motor contactor?

go to your local electrical wholesaler and ask for a "motor rated 3 phase circuit breaker" shouldnt cost more than $15

What ever product you decide too use -- Remember
the overload Protection you use must be sized
to handle the Rated Voltage/Current and overload
heater,s cant be more then 115% Name Plate FLA
of motor-as for what type? there are some small
compact types that can fit in a J-box or next to it

The least expensive would be a fuse block with 3 fuses. A better idea to protect the motor against single phasing would be an 3 phase O/L device. Contact the Allen-Bradley distributer near you.

Easiest way is to buy a motor starter with an overload output contact. Use this overload contact as your protection.
