Perform an electrical overspeed test at 9FB GT

We’re planning to perform en electrical overspeed test for GE 9FB Gas Turbine, A15 Steam Turbine in single shaft. The turbine control system is GE MarkVIe.

We will perform the test at the next shut down and the idea is to lead the unit from Normal Operation to FSNL without the selection of Normal Shut Down from the HMI interface & of course without having a Trip.

We’re planning to go gradually to minimum load and then to Open the Generator breaker manually. Actually it’s our first time after the commissioning that we’re going to do this test by this way & I mean from Normal Operation to FSNL.

We are going to prepare a procedure of how we can take the unit from Load condition to FSNL without selecting NSD.

Please any kind of information will be helpful to us!!!

For example the Gen Breaker opens due to a NSD when the load is approx 2MW. In our case and in order to go to FSNL, can we reduce the load manually to 2MW?

How can we open the Gen Breaker safely and without having an overspeed Trip.

Does the Excitation system needs a manual adjustment to MVARS in order to achieve 0 MVATS
